When the Centre for Ecosystem Restoration Kenya (CER-K) required a new research and operations facility in Nairobi, they needed more than just office space. The building had to reflect the organisation's commitment to environmental sustainability while providing a practical workspace for researchers, project teams and daily operations.
CER-K is a leading Kenyan non-profit organisation dedicated to restoring biodiversity through research, ecosystem restoration, native seed resources and conservation initiatives across Kenya's diverse landscapes. Their work helps rehabilitate degraded ecosystems while supporting communities and protecting the country's natural heritage for future generations.
To help bring this vision to life, CER-K partnered with Almar Kenya to design and construct a modern modular office built around our flat pack building system.
Traditional construction can be time-consuming and resource intensive. For this project, modular construction provided a practical alternative that aligned with CER-K's environmental objectives.
Using Almar's flat pack modular buildings as the foundation of the development allowed the project to be completed efficiently while reducing waste and minimising disruption on site. The modular design also provides flexibility for future expansion should the organisation's operational requirements grow.
The completed facility provides comfortable office space for research, administration and operational teams while supporting CER-K's ongoing conservation work throughout Kenya.
The project was delivered in collaboration with Brookhill Projects, who were responsible for the civil construction and interior finishing works.
Working together, both teams ensured every stage of the project was completed to a high standard, delivering a facility that exceeded the client's expectations in both quality and functionality.
The modular structures were completed over a six-week fabrication period before being transported to site.
Following delivery, site preparation, installation and finishing works were completed over a further eight weeks, resulting in a fully operational research and office facility ready to support CER-K's important work across Kenya.
The streamlined construction programme allowed the client to establish their new headquarters significantly faster than would typically be expected with conventional building methods.
